iPhone 18 Pro Charging: 60W Fast Charge, 25W MagSafe/Qi2, and What to Buy
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 10, 2026 (Japan time), with preorders from September 12 and release on September 18. The big charging news is in Apple’s official specs: “up to 50% in 15 minutes with a 60W or higher variable-voltage adapter” and “up to 25W over MagSafe or Qi2 (with a 35W or higher adapter).” The short answer: your existing 20W adapter still charges it, but to get the advertised speed you need a 60W-class adapter plus a rated cable, and for wireless a 25W-capable charger plus a 35W+ adapter. This guide works backward from the official specs to what’s worth adding.
The short answer: three things to add
- Fastest wired charging: Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter (up to 60W, genuine)—Apple's own answer to the "60W+ variable voltage" condition. AmazonRakuten
- Check the cable too: Apple 60W USB-C Charge Cable (1m, genuine)—rated for 60W-class charging. AmazonRakuten
- Move wireless to the 25W generation: Apple MagSafe Charger (1m, up to 25W)—genuine; third-party Qi2 25W (UGREEN Zapix, Belkin UltraCharge) are alternatives. AmazonRakuten
Verification: based on Apple's official specs page (iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max) and makers' official and product-page figures, not our measurements. Rakuten buttons are added as data becomes available.
The short answer: three things the official specs changed
| Item | Apple’s official spec (iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max) | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Wired fast charging | Up to 50% in 15 minutes with a 60W+ variable-voltage (dynamic) adapter and USB-C cable | A 20W adapter still charges it, but the advertised speed needs 60W class |
| MagSafe | Up to 25W (with a 35W+ adapter), up to 50% in 30 minutes | Faster than older MagSafe (15W) or Qi (7.5W) chargers |
| Qi2 | Up to 25W | A Qi2 25W charger hits the same ceiling without being genuine Apple |
| Port | USB-C (USB 3, up to 10Gb/s, DisplayPort) | A 10Gbps cable is an option if you move data |

Is what you have enough? Checklist
- Only a 20W PD charger → It charges. If you’re often in a hurry, add a 60W-class adapter.
- A 65W-class multi-port (GaN) charger → Likely fine for wired fast charging (USB PD, with a cable rated for 60W class). 65W USB PD chargers
- An older MagSafe charger (15W) → Works, capped at 15W. For 25W, move up a generation (MagSafe vs Qi2 chargers).
- A Qi2 15W stand or 3-in-1 → Works as is. For speed, a Qi2 25W model (Qi2 25W wireless chargers).
- A thin phone-grade cable → Get a USB-C cable rated for 60W class (choosing a USB-C cable).
What to add, matched to the official specs
Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter (up to 60W, genuine)
Apple’s “variable-voltage (dynamic)” adapter—the genuine way to meet the 60W+ variable-voltage adapter condition. It also works for a MacBook Air.
Apple 60W USB-C Charge Cable (1m, genuine)
The genuine 1m cable, equivalent to the one in the box and rated for 60W-class charging. To use the 10Gb/s port for data, consider a USB 3 cable separately (do you need a 240W cable?).
Apple MagSafe Charger (1m, up to 25W, genuine)
The genuine puck that meets the 25W MagSafe condition (35W+ adapter). The adapter is sold separately, so pairing it with the 40W Dynamic above is the natural combination.
Belkin UltraCharge Qi2 25W 2-in-1 Charging Stand (WIZ038)
A Qi2 25W 2-in-1 stand (iPhone plus AirPods, etc.). If genuine MagSafe isn’t a must, you get 25W with a stand.
UGREEN Zapix Wireless Charging Pad (Qi2 25W)
A thin Qi2 25W pad for the desk or bedside.
What you don’t need to add
- A 240W cable: not needed for the iPhone (60W class is enough). Different story if you share it with a laptop (do you need a 240W cable?).
- A 100W-class charger: overkill for the iPhone alone; worthwhile if one charger also covers a laptop and tablet (100W charger comparison).
FAQ
Q. Can I keep using my iPhone 17-series charger? A. Yes. But the iPhone 18 Pro’s “50% in 15 minutes” requires a 60W+ variable-voltage adapter; a 20W or 30W adapter won’t reach the advertised speed. For iPhone 17 gear, see iPhone 17 series charging.
Q. What about the standard iPhone 18? A. Only the Pro and Pro Max were announced; the standard model is unannounced (reports suggest spring 2027). This article is based on the Pro / Pro Max official specs.
Q. Can a power bank do 25W wireless? A. Qi2.2 (25W) power banks are now on sale. See Qi2 25W power banks.
